To open the Max/MSP patch called bapu_patch.maxpat, please download the latest version of the free Max/MSP RunTime at http://www.cycling74.com, for Mac or Windows.

The patch is used to give the performer more flexibility, allowing the performer to control the entrances of the different sound files with a pedal and allowing the audio files to overlap.

Note: All of the individual audio files (1.aiff, 2.aiff, etc.) need to be in the same folder as bapu_patch.maxpat for the audio to work.

STEPS to Set-up
1. Sound:
Double-click the " dac~ " object to select the correct audio driver. (Typically, this will be the Built-In audio or soundcard). Click the Speaker icon button to turn ON the sound.

2. Trigger:
The sound files can be triggered by MIDI Pedal, Computer Keyboard, or Mouse click. Choose the appropriate device under the Trigger Controls menu.

For MIDI Pedal:
Double-click the " ctlin " object to select the correct MIDI device. A controller value of 127 triggers the sound. For a normal MIDI foot switch pedal, this means the sound is triggered when the pedal is depressed.

For Computer Keyboard (spacebar, etc.) or USB foot pedal (sending ASCII data):
	a. Select "Keyboard" in the Trigger Controls section.
	b. Press a key on the computer keyboard (or press the USB food pedal).
	c. Note down the number in the box under "Find Key Number."
	d. Type in the same number into the number box under "Set Key Number" and hit enter.
	e. This input value will now trigger the files.

For Mouse
	a. Select "Mouse" in the Trigger Controls section.
	b. Click on the large square box under Mouse On/Off.
	c. Move the mouse away from the box.
	d. You are now ready to use the Mouse as the trigger.
	e. **Note** Once you are done using the Mouse as a trigger, turn OFF the Mouse On/Off by click on the large square box again. Now you may use the Mouse as a mouse again.
	f. The smaller box next to the large square box is simply for display.

Trigger threshold: In order to avoid accidental double triggers, the trigger threshold will wait a certain amount of time before allowing the next trigger through. By default, the time is set to 1 second, which is usually adequate. However, the number box may be used to set longer times if necessary.

General Usage:
1. The "Reset Pedal" button will start the count back at 0, preparing you for the beginning of the piece.

2. The "Stop all Audio" immediately stops all files that are currently playing.

3. The Clock is simply given as a monitoring device, especially for the beginning of the piece. It will automatically start when section 1 is started. It will stop and reset itself if "Reset Pedal" or "Stop all Audio" is pressed. Otherwise, it will keep going. To Pause, simply click on the toggle (the large square and click it again to resume.

4. "For Rehearsal" section:
Use these numbers to set up the next pedal change.
For example, if you want to rehearse starting at section 6, click the number in the "For Rehearsal" section. Nothing will happen, but once you hit the trigger (pedal/mouse/keyboard) section 6 will begin and the trigger will be prepared to move on to the next section in sequence, as normal. This is more useful than just clicking the numbers in the "Individual Sections" because it will wait for your trigger rather than starting immediately.

5. The buttons marked "Reh A, B, C, D" correspond to rehearsal cues marked in the score. These are provided for convenient alternate starting points within the given section during Rehearsals. They will begin immediately and the trigger will be prepared to move on to the next section in sequence, as normal.

6. Tuning section:
	a. Double-click on the "p tuning" object. This opens a new window that contains four sound files taken from various points in the piece that may help with tuning.
	b. Use the loop on/off button to repeat playback.
	c. The Speaker button on the main patch must be ON to hear the tuning files.
	d. All files may be played simultaneously if desired. You may or may not need all of the files, but I've provided what I thought may be important places to be in tune.
	e. **Please note**: Due to the electronic nature of the sounds, the file for "D + A high" is not completely in tune with "D + A medium". Use both files to get in the range of the tuning of the piece.
